New 2025 Toyota Prius
The Toyota Prius has been the quintessential compact hybrid for a quarter of a century. Perhaps the first widely adopted hybrid, it has evolved over the years. While the first Prius was a small, underpowered four-door built to save power and weight, the modern Prius provides spritely performance underneath sleek, futuristic bodywork. The 2025 Toyota Prius continues to lead the hybrid sedan segment, but with more style than ever before!

Performance Features
As much as the look of the Prius has changed over the years, what’s under the hood has evolved even further. The hybrid system features a 2.0-liter gas engine paired with a permanent magnet AC synchronous motor. A second rear motor is used in the all-wheel drive models. This delivers 136 lb-ft of torque across the line-up; front-wheel drive units produce 194 combined horsepower and all-wheel drive produce 196 combined horsepower. Fuel economy in the 2025 Prius ranges from 49 MPG city and 50 MPG highway, up to 57 HPG city and 56 MPG highway depending on drive and trim.
Style and Technology
With a low, arcing cabin roof leading to a short hatchback, the 2025 Toyota Prius features an aerodynamic profile. From the front, the curving slits of headlights curve up and back from the slit grille. Slight creases provide character to the otherwise flat sides.
While there is seating for five, the rear seats are tight, and the sloping greenhouse roof cuts into potential headroom – rear seat passengers are limited to 36.4 inches, while there is 38 inches of headroom in the front seats. Front seat passengers get 43.2 inches of leg room, while rear seats are limited here as well, getting only 34.8 inches, making the second row more conducive for children and teens instead of adults. While front-wheel drive version have 23.8 cubic feet of trunk space, the additional electric motor eats into that space in the all-wheel drive versions, reducing it to 20.3 cubic feet – still larger than most compact and mid-size sedans.
An 8.0-inch touch screen sits in the center of the console, with standard wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, while a 12.3-inch multimedia system is available. A six-speaker stereo and six USB ports are standard, with an 8-speaker JBL audio system standard on the top trim level.

Safety
The Toyota Safety Sense system has long been a leader in the field, and the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the 2025 Toyota Prius range. This suite features adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, front automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert is standard on every model, paired with a backup camera featuring dynamic gridlines - a Panoramic View Monitor with 360-degree view is available. While not part of the Safety Suite, the Toyota Rear Seat Reminder and the Safe Exit Assist system are standard on every Prius as well.
Trim Levels
Four trims are available in the 2025 Toyota Prius, and every trim is available with front- or all-wheel drive.
The base LE trim sits on 17-inch alloy wheels. Manually adjustable front seats are clad in durable cloth, while automatic climate control provides for passenger comfort. The LE features the standard conveniences already mentioned, as well as remote keyless entry.
Stepping up to the XLE trim adds synthetic leather SofTex-trimmed front seats, and the driver’s seat gets 8-way power adjustability. The front seats and the steering wheel are both heated. Wireless device charging is standard, while the 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen is optional. Additional driver-assistance features include reverse collision warning and front and rear parking sensors.
Primarily a cosmetic upgrade to the XLE, the new Nightshade Edition trim sits on blacked-out 19-inch wheels. Black trim surrounds the exterior, including blacked-out badges, front door handles, door sills and antenna. Inside, the synthetic leather upholstery is black, highlighted with gray stitching.
At the top of the lineup is the Limited trim, which adds a standard fixed-glass roof and a power liftgate, unique to this trim. Front seats are ventilated, while heated rear seats are an independent option. The 12.3-inch touchscreen is standard on this trim and is paired with the 8-speaker JBL premium audio system.

While it's one of the original hybrids, the Prius continues to evolve, and the 2025 Toyota Prius demonstrates that it is still the model to beat in the compact hybrid segment.
